As I watched the coverage of Tyler Perry Studios grand opening, I couldn’t help but feel incredibly proud of him as well as extremely inspired! I actually got up feeling refreshed and ready to attack EVERY SINGLE ONE of the goals that I’ve set for myself!
Transparency Moment
Admittedly, this weekend I felt everything BUT inspired. I literally spent the ENTIRE weekend in the bed having a “woe is me” moment. To most of my friends I am the “strong one” in the bunch but this time I was feeling weak. That’s an emotion I hardly allow myself to dwell in. But last week SEVERAL things hit me all at once from financial to emotional….and after the last 2 years that I’ve experienced, I guess I just broke....TEMPORARILY!! My very good friend tells me all the time that I “over think” everything, and you know what….that’s actually accurate. I am a HEAVY thinker. It’s not unusual for me to spend hours working in complete silence with nothing but my thoughts and the buzz of my sewing machines. I am constantly trying to figure things out and analyze the “best outcome,” calculate my next move and find my deficiencies so I don’t make the same mistakes over and over again. I also notice I like to do all that ALONE! Why? I’d rather not put my trust in people. I also don’t like feeling needy, weak or even vulnerable. I decided a long time ago that those are descriptions that would NEVER be associated with me, likely because of my experiences growing up. In return, I am extremely private, hardly EVER ask for help, would rather do it ALL myself, will decline a “hand out” in a heartbeat ……and mainly so I’m not at the mercy of anyone or run the chance of those actions being thrown back in my face. But you know what….it’s exhausting!
GROWTH
Watching the different media and personal coverage of Tyler Perry’s grand opening really touched me. I watched as his friends were there to support and celebrate such a huge accomplishment that wasn’t just about him. Of course it got me to thinking…….With his past, I’m SURE on his journey he has encountered many of my same emotions. But where would he be without his circle around him? Oprah, Ava, Beyonce, Cicely Tyson, Patti Labelle and so many more were in attendance and they ALL helped him get HERE! I am certain there were moments where he had to be vulnerable with the risk of appearing weak, had to feel uncomfortable and ask for help, be transparent with his deficiencies so he could grow. In that moment it felt like my eyes were opened. I can work harder than anyone I’ve ever known but I’ll never reach my fullest potential doing it alone. Like Tyler Perry, I have HUGE goals. I’m not afraid of the work but I MOST DEFINITELY need a solid group around me who believes in my vision for US and who is also willing to help us get there!! I thank GOD for the people He has already put around me who get it and are down for the team. You know who you are!!!! In the spirit of GROWTH I am VOWING to be less closed off and VULNERABLE so we can grow this dream of mine that will eventually help so many people and touch the world!
