Starbucks is Bae!

If you have been following me for any amount of time then you should know that I LOVE me some Starbucks.....it's definetly my BAE!

I can't deny it, my job is the best! I'm usually in my own world doing my thing in the studio for hours and without having to answer to ANYONE! I can work at my own pace without a someone breathing down my throat or nagging at me. That usually means I get LOTS of sewing done without any distractions. Well okay, it has it's pros and cons. On one hand it's really nice to not be disturbed, particularly when I have deadlines, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that it can also get lonely. I typically work 16+ hours a day in the studio so that's a lot of hours of being in my own thoughts. LOL!

But one thing I noticed about myself is that when I am home and anywhere close to the studio, production is ALL I think about! The pressure of getting projects done overrides anything else I have to do. I put off work on the computer that I know is absolutely necessary. I'll easily have an inbox full of unattended emails, outdated updates that never make it to my website and be completely behind on accounting because all I can think about is what needs to be done in production to remain on schedule. You all want your accessories and you want them NOW!!

I'm focused

And then one day, I decided to see if I could do what I saw so many other people doing at Starbucks.....WORK! I used to just drop in to grab my cup of coffee and maybe sit a while and people watch, which happens to be one of my favorite things to do. I liked the idea of the baristas welcoming me by name and even remembering my favorite drink....making me feel all special and stuff. You see, because I work alone it can easiliy feel like I'm not a part of the world that's happening around me. So many days can go by without any in-person interactions, especially when deadlines are high.....but taking a break and going to Starbucks makes me feel like I'm dropping into the office and being greeted by my coworkers. LOL!

work. done!

That day I had the idea of bringing my computer with me and actually cross tasks off my to-do list was one of the BEST moments. I realized that I am way more fucused being at my favorite coffee joint and for several reasons. The main one being that since I can't sew while I'm out, my thoughts aren't so consumed with the guilt of NOT being in the workroom slaving on production deadlines. I am also more intentional with what I'm working on. Because I plan what I need to do before I go to Starbucks. I really do sit there until I've completed that specific task..... and then I leave! There are way less incompleted line items that I have to return to later.....which ulitimately sucks up more time that I don't have. One of the largest bonus to hanging out at Starbucks is that I no longer feel like I'm in a bubble, YAY! I actually get to interract with PEOPLE. And I have met some pretty cool individuals while sitting there working and enjoying my coffee. Win win win!

Starbucks definitely works for me because some days I actually want to get dressed and enter the world! This was one of those days. I decided to rock my HUG alone over a basic denim top and without a hood attached. To me, it was just the pop of color and style I needed to round out a simple fall get up. And although I was actually having a GREAT hair day, I decided to wear a hat because they make me feel cozy when it's chilly outside. Next, I threw on a couple of my staple pieces: my FAVORITE chunky leather ring, small ring and nugget earrings. And lastly, I had to grab the Bigger Marlena wallet which is PERFECT for everyday!!!! (No......I didn't make this belt. I found it at a second hand store. LOVE!)

Why Starbucks? Because I love the people, coffee, the free wifi and something about the aroma in the air that keeps me coming back! Maybe I'll see you the next time I'm out at the office.....make sure to say hi!
