If you are a mother......then I must say "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY" to you! Today sets as a reminder for everyone to take the time and acknowledge ALL that mothers do!
What I love about life is there is always a teaching moment going on whether I realize it or not. Sometimes I'm extremely fortunate to have the insight of recognizing those lessons in the present and often times it's loooooong after the fact. But the older I get I am learning to embrace each "life lesson" as they come to me. I have to TRUST that each experience is one that I needed to go through because eventually another scenario will come up which will require a particular set of skills that I gained from the previous one. Being a mom has been one of my BIGGEST life lesson!
ALWAYS BE LEARNING
As a mother, the concept of learning from life lessons is like.....duh!!! I have had this EXACT conversation with our kids a BILLION times. I can recall explaining to them so many times how even when you plan every detail and execute perfectly............perfect results are not gauranteed. What's just as important is how you react to what's being thrown at you. How do you problems solve so you can bounce back? Be able to drink a nice ice cold glass of lemonade out of all those life lemons?
Moms, don't be so wrapped in teaching these lessons that we forget to take them in for ourselves. I believe our kids learn MORE from watching us in action versus simply listening to our words. From crisis situations, friendship breakups, heartbreaks, bad choices, consequences, money to self care and everything in between, our kids are watching and learning how to eventually react and move forward in thier own life journey.
I honestly believe that one of MOST IMPORTANT lessons I've learned about being a mom is that my kids are also watching starting with how I treat myself..... and they are taking "subconscious" notes.
Once of my biggest epiphany moments, was when I suddenly realized that I had been completely neglecting myself.....for years! As soon as I became a mother the concept of my family before me settled in. I had almost retired "Nadia" and was soley "MOM". Over the next almost twenty years I was robotic in putting everyone BEFORE me. And I'm not the only one, I've recently had SO many conversations with mothers sharing my same experience........ and at the end of the day they were also feeling completly drained, with nothing left for themselves. From experience, I can say it lead to emotions that, when not addressed, became toxic to not just me but those around me. Emotions that I may have been passing to the impressionable around me.
THEY SEE YOU
This Mother's Day, I challenge you to take some time just for you! Today is your day! Pamper yourself, read a book, take a long bath, laugh with friends, sleep the rest of the day away, GET A GREY BUTTON BAG.......do whatever YOU want to do! Step back and look at those life lessons and make sure that you haven't lost yourself in them. If necessary, recall those situations, process them, choose not to focus on the negatives and intentionally pray for the wisdom so you can truly grow from it and emerge a stronger, fulfilled and happier version of YOU - A mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend or colleague...........
I had the pleasure of spending Mother's Day EVE with a group of moms and more..... at our Pop-Up Shop in Los Angeles.
