CHAPTER ONE: Birthday Dress
For years you’ve watched me make handbags.
You’ve seen the leather, the tools, the sketches, and the finished pieces. But many of you also know that before handbags became my focus, I went to school for fashion design.
I learned how to construct women’s garments from scratch. Draping on the dress form. Building patterns. Sewing techniques that turn fabric into something wearable and expressive. Clothing was actually my first love. But when The Grey Button started growing, the bags demanded my full attention. Orders increased, new designs came to life, and before I knew it, years had passed since I had made a garment.
Recently I started feeling the pull again.
That desire to design clothing. To work with fabric in a different way. To revisit the skills I learned in school and see how they have evolved with the designer I’ve become today.

So I decided to do something simple.
Start with one dress.
My birthday dress.
This piece is more than just something to wear. It’s the beginning of a creative reset. A chance to step back into the techniques that shaped my early design training while bringing the experience I’ve gained from years of crafting handbags.
Throughout this series I’ll be sharing:
• The design process
• Draping techniques
• Sewing tips
• Behind-the-scenes decision making
• The challenges and the wins

This is not about perfection.
It’s about returning to the craft.
Some pieces will be personal.
Some will become part of limited collections.
All of them will be part of the creative process.
And I’m inviting you to follow along as I step back into the studio and reconnect with the designer who first fell in love with making clothes.
