When I stop and think about it, I feel like January just reminded me that time is moving and I haven't been ACTUALLY moving at the same pace. I have all these BIG goals and I'm over here moving like I have all the time in the world. Yeah, at the time I can always come up with legitimate reasons why I'm chosing NOT to do the thing I say I want....but the first step to all this is admitting the truth. They are all EXCUSES! If I really wanted to be knocking out all these goals I would get myself on track and start tackling each goal step by step. Well guess who had to talk crazy to themselves to get it together?? ME!!! I don't know what happened but it was like a lightbulb went off and I started to see things a lot more clearly than I had before. I am writing things out in my planner and I am watching myself check off all these little tasks. I am getting closer to the big picture.....and the feeling it gives me motivates me to hurry up and get to the next task! Check , check , check! Why had I not done this before? Who knows, but I'm glad I am on it now!
CHALLENGE
With all that being said, at the beginning of the year I challenged myself that I would push harder into the areas I want to grow in. I love making bags and especially all the ways I can be creative within even one style, but I never wanted to stop there. I am ready to not only do more with the handbags and accessories, but also start working on my apparel designs. I have been a work machine for the past few years and in a role I didn't particularly aspire to be in.......and that is working in "production". I realize that I was ABSOLUTELY neccessary for me and my growth that I work this part of the business, but I can say that the atmosphere isn't always one that inspires creativity. After long days of getting through orders, I haven't had the willpower to then try to turn my creative side on and sketch new designs..... followed by working on patterns. But you know what? Not having the "willpower" also keeps me right where I am. instead of at the next level. Time to go harder!
You all are pretty much family at this point so I'm going to share with you all my vision in hopes that you not only support me, but hold me accountable! I am ready to elevate THE GREY BUTTON to the next level with offering all new handbag styles and small accessories as well as introducing apparel. I will be getting my practice on designing some pieces for myself each month and I will be sharing the process as I build up to the final look. The goal is to eventually offer limited order pieces based off of your feedback. I also need to start forming my production team so I can step from behind the sewing machine so much to work on new designs. I admit, I have been somewhat reluctant to give over the reigns but I think it's time. I would to focus on coming up with fresh handbags, accessories and apparel!
